The City of Fairfax will begin work to construct a new sidewalk, stabilize the embankment, install new storm drain facilities, and upgrade associated utilities on the west side of Chain Bridge Road between Rust Hill Place and North Street. The project will begin on or around May 1, 2019 and will last approximately 12 months.
Northbound Chain Bridge Road traffic will be detoured for the majority of the project. The northbound detour route will utilize Whitehead Street, University Drive and Kenmore Drive. Please refer to the map below for the detour route.
Southbound traffic will be open for the majority of the project and will only be detoured as-needed.
Pedestrians may detour around the work zone using sidewalks on Whitehead Street, University Drive and Kenmore Drive.
Exact dates of construction are subject to change. For updates and additional information, please visit www.Rt123sidewalk.com and sign up for Fairfax City Alert, the City’s electronic message alert service (https://www.fairfaxva.gov/services/about-us/fairfax-city-alert).
